Unfortunately, careless driving and speeding have become routine in our society. As a result, many tickets and speeding reports are being filed for drivers that do not take road safety seriously, who do not adhere to speed limits, and who risk themselves and others in the process.
It is very easy for Israeli traffic police to issue tickets to all speeding drivers, but the real question is, why do so many drivers reach a state of such indifference that they are willing to endanger the lives of others and risk being subject to legal punishment?
Our law offices specialize in traffic laws, how to handle drivers that drive without a license, and represent clients before traffic courts.

Speeding and Speeding Tickets
Tickets and penalties related to speeding are issued by traffic police based on sections of the law that have been formulated for this purpose, and which include penalties that are consistent with the severity and nature of the offense. These punishments and consequences are intended to:
- Deter drivers from committing driving offenses.
- Protect all road users’ safety, including drivers.
- Enforce the letter of the law and prevent repeat offenses.
The tickets that are most likely to be issued in the case of speeding (depending on the severity of the offence) are:
- 250 NIS without points.
- 750 NIS with 8 points.
- 1,500 NIS with 10 points, and issuance of summons to a court order.
It is important to note that dangerous driving, including driving at dangerous speeds, gives the police permission to suspend or revoke the driver’s license of the offending driver and require them to appear in court immediately to determine whether the driver endangered the lives of others. You can learn about the calculations used to determine how many points are applied for offending drivers under the Traffic Law, and the Traffic Regulations Law, 1961, in a previous article on our website.
How are the Speeds of the Offending Driver Estimated?
Israeli traffic police have several means to estimate the speed of vehicles and to issue tickets to offending drivers. As part of its fight against speeding drivers, the Israeli police use methods that began in the United States in the late 1940s and have continued to evolve to this day:
- Speed Camera Model A/3
- Laser Gun model Marksman Iti 20.20
- “BEE III,” a device that measures the speed of vehicles when a police car is either static or on the road.
It is important to mention that the effectiveness of many of these devices has not been proven in extreme heat conditions or heavy rain. This means that the device may produce an incorrect reading in inclement weather conditions at the time of the offense, or due to the distance between the officer and the alleged offending driver. For example, the laser-operated device has a range of exactly 300 meters, after which the accuracy drops. The “BEE III” also has reliability issues, which are documented.
